Established on 10 September 2007 when a number of media associations met in Geneva and adopted their objective to work on achieving a specialized convention to protect media in zones of conflict and elsewhere.

The ICPJ will also reach out to assist media associations and journalists who face extreme duress in their working condition whether it be in conflict zones or in situations like civil unrest or global events that lead to violent actions by forces to restore order and law.

In its difficult task to achieve this noble goal, the ICPJ, whole heartedly supports the efforts of the Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), founded in June 2004.
